The 2018-2019 Season includes something for every age and every taste, including an expanded menu for adults. See folk tales, historical fiction, a brand new show about Johnny Appleseed and other apple heroes, and, for the mature generation, a Puppet Slam, Dessert Theatre For Adults, and Puppet Film Shorts, curated by Heather Henson! All ages will enjoy Liz Howls, our guest puppeteer from Minneapolis with two shows, one for families and one for adults.
Start the season by attending the Great Plains Puppet Train, a regional festival through Puppeteers of America, taking place this year in West Liberty with thirteen shows, numerous workshops, and an evening party with Quintron and Miss Pussycat from New Orleans! Register for half price if you live in the West Liberty School District and see everything, or buy tickets for selected shows. Beat the winter blahs by attending a family show during winter break. Join your friends and neighbors by participating in the popular Community Show (this year: John Brown's Journey, presented on the 160th anniversary of the title event)!
New this year: three "Maker Breaks" for adults and teens! A chance to sit down with friends, old and new, and create something fun with your hands while sipping wine or other beverages and nibbling on snacks.
All events take place in downtown West Liberty, a hopping little town with lots of restaurants and a lovely 1910 vintage opera house.
Thanks to support from HNI, ACT, U of I Community Credit Union, and many generous friends donating to the Teri Jean Breitbach Memorial Fund, we are once again bringing puppet shows and workshops to neighborhoods, maybe including yours, all summer! This year's show is The Big Election with puppeteers Monica Leo and Stephanie Vallez.

With shows that connect to the Iowa Core, include study guides, and take place in West Liberty's beautiful 1910 opera house or Owl Glass Puppetry Center's intimate environment, these events are perfect for grades K-5.
Remember the beautiful production of King Lear by Independent Eye from California presented at Owl Glass Puppetry Center in October 2015? Well, Conrad Bishop and Elizabeth Fuller will be back in West Liberty, this time reading from their new novel GALAHAD'S FOOL, which stems out of Bishop & Fuller's fifty-year theatrical collaboration and explores what happens when time overtakes a partnership....

Every other year Puppeteers of America hosts a national puppetry festival. In the years in between, regions present their festivals. This year's Great Plains festival will take place in West Liberty, with 13 shows, numerous workshops, and lots of fun!
The Festival will start Thursday evening, Sept.
Leading up to this year’s children's festival, as part of the Great Plains Puppet Train, Eulenspiegel and Friends will present a “Puppet Slam” on Friday evening, Sept. 15, at 8:30 P. M.

The Twenty Second Annual West Liberty Children's Festival will take place Saturday, September 15, 2018, from 10:00 A. M. to 3:00 P. M.

We're offering three different opportunities for adults (and teens) to gather together, sip wine and other beverages and nibble on snacks while exercising your creativity and making something fun!
Enjoy the fellowship of other artists and craft aficionados while creating a lovely objet d’art!

Celebrate the Day of the Dead tradition by making a delightful shadow box scene of skeletons living everyday lives! We’ll make the skeletons out of paper clay, model magic, wire, and other materials. The boxes can be decorated or painted as scenery.

Why won’t that troll take a bath? Why was he living under the bridge? Why is this a problem for Bart, Billy, and Bob, The Three Billy Goats Gruff? In this fun version of the old tale, Pam Corcoran’s beautiful needle felted puppets answer these questions.

Make a sweet little tabletop theater and tell your favorite family stories! Bring photos that you can convert into paper puppets or draw your own versions of your beloved family members. A great conversation starter to feature at your family holiday parties!

Heather Henson introduces independent filmmakers and puppeteers who explore their craft specifically for the camera in this handpicked selection of puppet film shorts. Handmade Puppet Dreams showcases the fresh voices of independent puppeteers who embrace film as their medium and breathe life into their dreams, while exploring a spectrum of live-action puppetry styles.

In honor of the International Day of Puppetry (March 21), Eulenspiegel presents a favorite community puppet show, John Brown's Journey!
JOHN BROWNʼS JOURNEY is a dramatic retelling of actual events that happened in the southern half of Iowa, in West Liberty, and in Kansas in 1858 and 1859.
Age group: 8-98
Music Box is a poetic journey about a woman who seeks to fix what has been broken. Multiple attempts to fix her old music box causes her to dig deeper into her past to find what she has buried. Audience members describe this piece as “powerful dark nostalgia.
Age group: Teens and adults
Liz Howls performs 3 short fables for all ages (that’s you too, mom and dad!). Using miniature handmade puppets and her odd yet silly sense of humor, she makes the whole family laugh. This show is fun and sentimental and reminds us of ancient lessons that we can still apply today.
